Set within his childhood neighbourhood Little Italy, Scorsese’s third film follows small-time Italian American gangster Charlie (Keitel) as he wrestles with his devout Catholicism while working for local Mafioso Giovanni.
Urged by Giovanni and his girlfriend to distance himself from his reckless friend Johnny Boy (De Niro), Charlie’s urge to protect him leads to trouble when Johnny racks up gambling debts and refuses to pay.
