"★★★★★ – A hilarious and incisive skewering of vanity projects and the egos which propel them into the ground" – HeyUGuys
"Every line delivery is immaculate, and Cruz in particular, with her ginger frizzy locks, proves that she is a comic behemoth who has too long been laid dormant" – Little White Lies
★★★★ – Flickering Myth
★★★★ – Variety
An ageing pharmaceutical tycoon purchases the film rights to a Nobel prize-winning novel and hires unconventional auteur Lola (Cruz) to bring his pet project to life.
Lola casts two acting titans for the film’s leads – Iván (Oscar Martínez), a revered stage actor committed to his art , and Félix (Banderas), a blockbuster star known for his glitzy celebrity lifestyle. As Lola applies her demanding process to the actors, their egos create a drama all of their own.
There are plenty of films about filmmaking, but none quite as warm-heartedly satirical as Official Competition, openly ridiculing the egos involved with actors and directors alike. Wacky, outrageous, and beautifully brought together with the immense talents of its three stars.
