"A bold and brave story of a family man at the mercy of small town corruption" – Screen Daily

"★★★★ – dynamic but despairing" – Guardian

★★★★ – Little White Lies

★★★★ – Financial Times

Sukholytkyy-Sobchuk’s feature debut is a gripping thriller set in rural Western Ukraine on the eve of Malanka – the Ukrainian New Year’s Eve festival.

Returning to his family after working abroad Pamfir wants to earn an honest living, but after his teenage son sets a fire Pamfir ends up in debt to a corrupt local official and must take a dangerous smuggling run to put things right.

A heady mix of drama, thriller and pagan fairy tale, Pamfir is a timely and deeply felt allegory of Ukraine.
