We're delighted to announce that the speaker at our first PLATFORM Filmmaker Network event will be Laura Jayne Tunbridge – a BAFTA nominated writer, a director and a script editor.

Laura works across film and television, telling stories that platform marginalised communities and explore themes including queerness and self-acceptance.

Laura’s work includes Night of the Living Dread, nominated for both a BIFA and a BAFTA; Other Half, which was selected for competition as part of la Cinéfondation at the Cannes Film Festival 2021 and won Best Animated Short Film at the prestigious Sitges Film Festival; and Requiem, starring Bella Ramsey, which won an RTS Award.

Laura wrote and directed comedy short Dragged Up in 2020. The film has played at festivals across the UK and throughout the world, was nominated for Best British Short at the Iris Prize and has been broadcast twice on Channel 4.

In 2023 Laura wrote and directed queer short Girl on Girl for BFI NETWORK. The film was a semi-finalist at the Rhode Island International Film Festival and was also programmed at BFI Flare 2024.

2023 saw Laura selected as one of six directors to take part in Disney’s inaugural short film incubator scheme Star Imagine UK. Laura wrote and directed comedy-horror Nights, starring Susan Wokoma, and premiered at the London Film Festival in October 2023.

In television Laura is working across various original series commissions with companies such as The Forge Entertainment and See-Saw Films. Laura wrote episode four of comedy-drama series Sweetpea starring Ella Purnell for Sky Atlantic. In 2024 Laura shadowed director Elliot Hegarty on Series Two of Cheaters in an opportunity supported by Clerkenwell Films and BBC Drama.

Laura is a graduate of the National Film and Television School where she gained her MA in Screenwriting.
