A rare screening of this lesser-known comedy gem by director Horace Ové (Pressure), Playing Away tells a story about multiculturalism via cricket.

To mark the conclusion of their "Third World Week" celebration, a cricket team in a small English village invites a black cricket team from Brixton to a charity game with comical results.

Screening in tribute to Sir Horace Shango Ové CBE (1939- 2023) a Trinidadian-born British filmmaker, photographer, painter and writer.

The film will be followed by a Q&A with Dr Neil Carter, senior research fellow in the International Centre for Sports History and Culture, De Montfort University.

This special screening is co-presented by the International Centre for Sports History and Culture, as part of De Montfort University’s Cultural eXchanges, an annual festival led by students and staff.
