"★★★★ – a wonderful, intimate story of discovery" – The Indiependent
Sarah Obeng is a doctoral student at Columbia University, high-achieving and determined to be successful while wrestling her own cultural identity and expectations as the daughter of Ghanaian-American immigrants. Among her academic pursuits, her love life revolves around colleague Lyle, a married Father who she is all but set to relocate to Ohio with.
On the brink of this life-changing decision, Sarah’s beloved mother dies. Left with the task of organising two funerals, and dealing with the arrival of her Father from Ghana, Sarah finds she has been entrusted with owning and running her mother’s Christian book shop - King of Glory. She establishes an unlikely friendship with heavily tattooed, ultra loyal Pitt who works at the store.
Beautifully understated, Queen of Glory captures painful moments without fanfare or dramatic licence leaving a cathartic sigh of relatability.
