Nicholas Ray’s melancholy tale of disaffected youth features an iconic firebrand performance from James Dean as teenager Jim Stark.


After being involved in a terrible accident Jim wants to hand himself into police but fights with his parents who are worried about his future. Meeting with two other disillusioned teenagers, the three resolve to leave their middle-class lives.


Screening as part of the Criminology Film Season at the University of Leicester, the film will be introduced by an academic with specific expertise in a related area of criminology and after the film there will be a Q&A.
