We are delighted to be joined by Thea Gajić for a Q&A following the screening.
The powerful debut feature from writer-director Thea Gajić, an exciting and bold new voice in contemporary British cinema. Surviving Earth follows Vlad (Slavko Sobin), a Yugoslav refugee and gifted musician, who fled to the UK in the 90s. Rebuilding his life in Bristol, Vlad longs to be the father that his daughter Maria deserves.
When he forms a band to reconnect with his roots, music becomes a lifeline for Vlad. As difficulties arise and old habits begin to resurface, Vlad is at risk of losing everything he has built. Can he find redemption through love and music, or will the past drag him down once more?
This screening is presented in partnership with Oblique, a film and culture forum presenting a series of screenings, listening sessions and artist-led conversations rooted in curiosity and the exploration of language. Hosted by Leon Rehman and Sarah Sunnie.
