A funny and life-affirming tale of family politics, this free screening as part of this year's ESRC Festival of Social Science will be followed by a panel discussion / Q&A on international migration and the migrant experience.

Featuring a star-making performance from Awkwafina, The Farewell is a funny and life-affirming tale of family politics, east meets west and the heartache of goodbyes.

Chinese-born, US-raised Billi (Awkwafina) reluctantly follows her parents home to Changchun to find that although the whole family knows their beloved matriarch, Nai Nai, has only weeks to live, everyone has decided not to tell Nai Nai herself and has in fact gathered together under the guise of a wedding to say their farewells.

*Please note - these screenings will start promptly at the advertised time. As this screening is expected to sell out we will have a waiting queue of customers to fill seats just before film start - as such latecomers may risk losing their seats.
