In 1986, Greg LeMond became the first American to win the Tour de France. The following year, he was hit by a bullet in a hunting accident. The injuries were life-threatening, but despite 35 hail bullets in his body, he fought his way back to the saddle to compete again.

Now it’s 1989 and his main rival is Laurent Fignon. It’s American boy-next-door charm against French ferocity. The race is the stuff of legend, it’s closer than ever, and the yellow jersey will be decided on the final stage’s time trial.

In Alex Holmes’ gripping documentary, Greg LeMond tells his own story with the help of his loyal wife Kathy. They share a deeply personal journey through the ups and downs that come with fame and performance culture.

The Last Rider is a film for cycling fans and anyone with a love for the unpredictable dramas of the sporting world.
