Intrigued by her grandmother’s mention of a family scandal involving Leila’s mother Shirin in Iran, the film shifts to follow Shirin’s journey from rural poverty to real-estate mogul.
A warm, energetic and defiant film - Keshavarz was forced to shoot large sections of the film in Turkey due to being banned from returning to Iran - The Persian Version is a testament to women fighting to control their own lives and destiny.
