In preparation for her father’s surprise birthday party, seven year old Sol spends the day at her grandfather’s house, along with other family members busying themselves for a defiant celebration.

This may well be his last birthday, as he has been diagnosed with cancer, and as the day goes on the weight of mortality begins to affect the rhythms and structure of the whole family.

Actor-turned-director Lila Avilés’ (The Chambermaid) sophomore feature is infused with tenderness, a personal and affecting prelude to grief.
