Carol Morley (Dreams of a Life) returns with a bold and warm imagining of the life of artist Audrey Amiss, played brilliantly by Monica Dolan (Empire of Light).
Born in Sunderland in 1933, Audrey was formally trained at the prestigious Royal Academy, but battled mental health issues throughout her life.
Typist Artist Pirate King (her occupation as listed in her passport) meets Audrey as she sets off on a road trip with her psychiatric nurse (Kelly Macdonald) to a “local” gallery (actually 280 miles away in Sunderland) where she has a chance to be featured in an exhibition.
