All wholesome and gawky teenager Ruby Gillman (Lana Condor) wants is to fit in at Oceanside High. Forbidden by her mother (Toni Colette) from hanging out at the beach where the cool kids go, Ruby struggles to get her foot on the social ladder.
In typical teenage fashion Ruby rebels, but upon touching seawater, transforms into a tentacled Kraken and finds out she is a direct descendant of the Warrior Queen of the Seven Seas, destined to inherit the throne and protect the oceans against evil mermaids.
