Up in the Air

Showing: Fri 5 Feb -Thu 11 Feb

Ryan Bingham fires people for a living, doing the dirty work for companies all across America that don't have the guts to sack their employees face to face. But high - and frequently - flying Ryan might himself become grounded when an efficiency graduate gets on his case.

Funny, romantic, sexy and astutely satirical Up In The Air has Oscar-winner written all over it.

"A deliciously self-referential treat, and perhaps even Clooney's best movie yet."

Kevin Maher, Times UK

Leicester Comedy Festival

Date: Fri 5 Feb - Sat 20 Feb

The Leicester Comedy Festival is back and is bigger, better and funnier than ever before.

Phoenix Square is set to play a big part with a gut achingly funny line-up including award winning acts Brendon Burns – the hilariously outspoken Australian, Adam Buxton – from the famous duo ‘Adam and Joe,’ and Paul Sinha - the internationally acclaimed stand up comic.

The fun doesn’t end there either, our full line up is bursting with laughter and variety.

Book your tickets now to avoid disappointment!

Exhibition

The Haunted Image

Thu Feb 4 - Thu Feb 25

The Haunted Image features recent holographic portraits by artist and scientist Martin Richardson. Each piece appears to hover eerily in space, without any apparent support, bringing to mind early trick photography or gimmickry from some high-tech haunted house.

However, the exhibition also represents a serious attempt to find a new aesthetic direction in holography, charting a major shift from the traditional uses of this media.

Exhibition

Beyond Language

Mon 25 Jan - Fri 26 Feb

Showing in the Screen Lounge until Fri 26 Feb, Beyond Language by George Barber presents a complex and highly personal strategy of non-conformity that defines appropriation, collage and parody as the essential forms of contemporary art-practice.

Barber’s work is often categorised in three groups: Scratch videos, slacker videos and more recently performance videos. However, his voice is most coherent when his work is viewed as a single artistic project.

Education

Film, Politics and Propaganda

7 weeks starting on Wed 14 April, from 7pm - 8.30pm

Led by tutor Bill Shelton, this 7-week course will analyse how film has historically used its power to try and influence the way people view the political issues of the day.

Our Education courses do sell out very quickly, so be sure to book early to avoid disappointment.
