Independent Cinema, Digital Art Gallery & Cafe Bar
Set in the heart of Leicester's Cultural Quarter, Phoenix is an independent cinema, digital arts centre and cafe bar.
A charitable organisation, Phoenix aims to bring inspirational film and art to all. It is supported by funding from Leicester City Council, Arts Council England and De Montfort University, as well as from income generated through ticket sales, our cafébar, and customer donations.
Phoenix shows a broad cross-section of the best in world and independent cinema in its two state-of-the-art screens. Our cinema programme comprises new film releases alongside the classics, work by local film makers, archive and heritage film, lectures and talks; as well as international theatre, ballet and opera streamed live by satellite.
Phoenix curates a digital art programme which includes exhibitions, talks and events taking place in the Cube gallery, across Phoenix and beyond. As technology becomes a bigger part of our everyday lives, digital art offers new ways of looking at the world, helping us to make sense of things and challenging us to think differently.
Phoenix Interact Labs
A new programme, Phoenix Interact Labs, was introduced in October 2013 to encourage people to be creative with digital technology. Equipped with everything from DIY hardware kits to a state-of-the-art 3D printer the labs provide a space at Phoenix dedicated to learning, experimenting and making new things.
Phoenix's education programme includes activities for all ages delivered through a range of partners. Over the last year more than 8,000 people have attended Phoenix through our schools programmes, film appreciation courses for adults, and our filmmaker and artist events.
Our popular cafébar is open daily and serves fresh, locally-sourced food, world wines and local ales. It’s a fantastic place for lunch or an evening meal, meetings, or somewhere to enjoy a few drinks with friends.
